Children diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, and, in some cases, Attention Deficit Disorder, have certain strengths and weaknesses in common.  In particular, many such children have difficulty with focus, language pragmatics, non-verbal communication, social skills, and recreational skills.  Summers and weekends, when academic learning is not a priority, are ideal times to focus specifically on these skills—and to practice them in a fun, appropriate, non-academic setting.

Camp Outlook will build on our kids' skills and abilities while strengthening their social, communications, cognitive, and physical skills.  Such programs may combine arts, recreational, and language/social therapies with sports, science, drama, and other fun, hands-on, bodies-on activities.  Here's a preliminary schedule developed for Camp Outlook!

Arrive at 8:45; greeted by lead counselor and aides.  Join age-appropriate groups with 1:1 support.  Lead counselor available for troubleshooting, extra support as necessary.  Stay with age groups through lunch.

1:00 Swimming.

In the afternoon the two groups will alternate activities, so that the older group may be doing drama/social skills while the younger group is doing rec activities, and so on.  “Rec” could mean conventional therapy, inclusive games with other campers, sports skill building, and will probably include all three over the course of the week.
